This Is Your Season to Shift

Leslie Blue Dress 1

Are you in a season of “I Don’t Know What’s Going to Happen Next”? I’ve personally been there and done that.   If that’s the season you’re in right now, get ready to SHIFT into something GREAT. As you journey through this season, stay on TRACK and don’t fight the process. God’s aligning you with great PURPOSE; therefore, receive this SHIFT with gratefulness. The process may cause slight discomfort, embarrassment, or guilt- but it has a purpose for the next chapter in your life. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  I can confirm that if you stay focus, stay on course, and listen to God’s voice…you’ll SHIFT into greatness.

Jeremiah 29

God knows the plans that He has for your life. He’s confident in you succeeding, but are you confident in yourself? God’s plan for your life is to prosper you not to bring you harm. When I read Jeremiah 29:11 excitement swells within me because I know that it’s not God’s will for us to wonder aimlessly without purpose. I believe God has purposefully mapped out the direction for your life, but it’s up to you to seek His presence and gain clarity as to what that purpose is in this season.

I’ve always been a little rebel at heart that danced to my own beat. In all honesty, dancing to my own beat landed me in dark places in my life like teen motherhood at age sixteen and married to the wrong person, which caused so much public humiliation. In both instances, I wanted to “ACT” swiftly and not “LISTEN” respectfully to the word “NO” from God. In hindsight, I understand that what I truly wanted was love and attention…but I gained it negatively from the wrong people through instant gratification. Because I failed to seek God’s approval for certain wants in myself, I suffered immensely with public SHAME, financial ruin and starting over constantly. These two examples are negative shifts in my life. As a Transformation Discovery Coach™, you want to avoid negative shifts if at all possible. That’s why it’s important that you learn from past mistakes as you prepare to transition into your next chapter.

As you prepare to SHIFT, it’s vital that you:
1. Pray often.
2. Stay on course.
3. Focus daily.
4. Meditate on God’s word.
5. Change your diet by eating healthy.
6. Read daily for knowledge.
7. Stay calm.
8. Seek God’s approval.
9. Manage your stress level.
10. Get financially healthy.

Each tip can help you transition smoothly into your next chapter. The more you implement and practice good habits, the better you’ll feel as God transition you into your next season. I’m believing God for change and turn around in your life. Therefore, start preparing now for your season of change. Don’t wait until God changes your zip code, job, finances, etc., to address certain habits…start now.
Good Shifts Are Happening Now,

Stay Calm

Be Still

God’s word in Matthew 11:28-30 declares, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”(NIV) Wow! Living in a season of frustration is strong enough to break a camel’s back.  But as you whether the storm, do not allow the spirit of frustration to steal your love, peace, happiness or joy. It’s not God’s plan for you to feel an overwhelming sense of frustration daily.  Believe it or not, God doesn’t want your heart to be troubled. Instead, He wants you to smile and live happily without the burden of frustration.

God’s plan for your life is to live life and live it more abundantly. Abundant living is peaceful living. It’s living without constant distractions. Think about it; peace should provide a comfort level that surpasses all understanding. When you establish total peace, your entire life transforms.

That’s why the devil understands that frustrating you distracts you from God’s purposeful design for your life. When the enemy bombards you with frustration; you fail to live at your fullest potential. You become short-tempered, spiteful or neglectful. That’s the plan of the enemy. He wants to distract your attention from living life at its highest peek.

Let’s dig deeper! Happiness doesn’t merely exist when you’re frustrated nor does peace permeate the atmosphere. Learn to create peace. It may sound difficult at first “creating peace”, but it’s worth the try. When you embody peace, you create an atmosphere that’s inviting to you and everyone align to you. By creating this soothing comfort zone, you begin to shut out life’s negativity.

When creating a ‘frustration-free zone’, infuse the powerful practice of gratitude. By tapping into your happy place and practicing gratitude, you learn to defuse those negative energies that attempt to consume and capsize your day. Believe me, when you’re happy, everyone around you gleans from that happiness.

In an effort to rid frustration, plan to set aside time in the mornings to meditate and give thanks. You can do this by creating a ‘frustration-free zone’ in your home. Establish a playlist of calming music, affirmations, prayers, etc. Light soft, white candles. Purchase comfy, large, colorful pillows. Sit on them in a comfortable position. Breathe deeply. Close your eyes, as you inhale and exhale. Visualize positive imagines that make you smile. Create a positive energy around you. Connect with yourself on a spiritual level and give thanks.

Trust me.  You have what it takes to live life and live it more abundantly.  But in order to live life peacefully, you must learn to believe that you deserve peace everyday unapologetically.   This is your season to take back your life and walk in your authentic self.

Stay Calm not Frustrated,

Your Miracle Is Right Around the Corner

Around the corner

When I woke up this morning, I started to meditate.  I heard the small voice of God speaking. It’s amazing how God’s presence can change our perspective and change our entire day.  Not to get too personal, but as I was preparing breakfast this morning, I felt the visitation of God.  It was very strong.

First, God wants us to “COMMAND” our mornings. Take time to pray, meditate, exercise, journal, or self-reflect.  These strategies can help “set” the temperament for our entire day.  Daily, it’s imperative that we honor God by carving out time to converse with Him. When we fail to command our mornings by honoring God, distractions from the enemy can seep into our spirit causing physical and spiritual disruptions.  When we pray, we’re equipping ourselves to withstand the blows of the enemy.  Get rooted in the word when driving to work, while drinking coffee, or while sitting in bed aimlessly.  Every moment that we invite God in, we willfully build a spiritual bridge that allows us to tap into God’s purpose for our lives.  His word daily is food to our souls and nourishment for our bodies.

Next, God doesn’t want us to compromise.  We must stand strong, and we cannot compromise our well-being in this season.  Stay focus; stay mentally healthy; stress-free, and guilt-free. I must be honest; I use to compromise myself for the sake of fitting in with others.  But as I continually grow in Christ, God reminds me to stand on His word as a guide for my life as noted in Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) where it is written that God has a plan for our lives.  It’s not to harm us, but these plans are to prosper us so that we’ll have hope as He guides and directs us into our future.  Therefore, we must stop compromising our peace.  Remember, God doesn’t function in dysfunction.  He’s a man of order. That’s why it’s important that we build a relationship with God and that we converse with Him daily as we “Command Our Mornings.”

Then, God wants us to trust HIM!!!  I believe that God’s building our FAITH in this season.  He’s building our faith with various test and trials.  Through these various test and trails, God is causing us to exercise our faith and depend totally on him.  For it is written in Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV), “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Finally, God’s working a miracle in our lives.  Let’s stay strong and not sway from God when situations start to look weary.  Remember, God is watching during the test; he’s just quiet as He conducts an evaluation of our hearts and reactions to see if we’re walking by “faith” or walking by “sight”.

Sincerely,

~ShameNoMore

From Teen Mom to Doctoral Degree

IMG_20130513_231444

Good evening,

Even though I’ve graduated two years ago with my doctorate, I still have people ask me how I did it. Leslie, how did you graduate high school at sixteen? How did you succeed as a teen mom? What made you different than other teenage mothers? It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who want to know my recipe for success. For those of you who don’t know, I was a sixteen year old teen mom; yet, I found a way to graduate high school early with a diploma. I come from a single family of six. My father was killed in a car accident by a drunken driver. My mom, in her early thirties, was severally disabled from the same accident.

I didn’t set out to be a teen mom, but in life, sometimes we tend to look for love in all the wrong places as young girls. I use to be ashamed of this story, but now I embrace the story that has shaped me into the woman that I am today. I speak to other young women daily about completing high school and completing some type of technical or four year degree program. I tell them that education is the cornerstone to securing freedom from poverty. I’ve heard so many times that it’s hard to complete school as a single teen mom or single adult mother. I know, but it can be done. As a former teen mom myself, and a young divorcee, I usually ask, “How bad do you want out of your situation?”

I remember working as a maid in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina cleaning hotel rooms. Many people from my rural community worked as a maid to provide for their families. I never wanted to be a maid, but it was honest work for an honest paycheck. It was hard work, but one hot summer day, I decided that I would never drop out of college and become a maid full-time like so many folk from my rural community. I needed more; I wanted more. From that day forward, my life changed forever.

Completing school as a teen mom or single adult mother is never an easy task. So, here are several rules for turning your SETBACK into a SETUP for success. I’ve listed SIX key pointers below:
1. I never allowed other people to write the ending to my story.
2. I never gave up on myself; I believed in myself when other people didn’t.
3. I realized my potential and self-worth early-on.
4. I created a short-term and a long-term plan that was conducive for me and my baby.
5. I hung around people that were successful, and I learned what made them successful and applied it to my life.
6. I BELIEVED in the power of GOD.

Use the next six months for change,
